Terms of Service

Last updated: April 2026

Overview

Senden is a messaging platform that connects people. We do not moderate or review messages in transit. You are responsible for your own actions on this platform.

By using Senden, you agree to these terms and to comply with Swiss federal law.

Security & Availability

We take reasonable technical measures to protect the data you entrust to us.

  • All connections to Senden enforce TLS. Plaintext HTTP is not accepted
  • Internal service-to-service communication is encrypted
  • End-to-end encrypted conversations use AES-256-GCM symmetric encryption. Keys are self-custodied and never transmitted to or stored on our servers.

Senden runs on a cluster of multiple backend nodes simultaneously. If one node fails, others continue serving requests without interruption. Your data is backed up to separate physical servers to protect against hardware failure or data loss.

The file sharing and CDN feature is an exception: it currently has integrity checks and can rebuild corrupted files if possible, but does not have full replication across servers. Full CDN replication is on the roadmap and will be introduced once Senden generates enough revenue to sustain the infrastructure cost.

If you discover a security vulnerability, please disclose it responsibly. We act quickly on confirmed reports and, where applicable, we will compensate the reporter or add them to our Hall of Fame.

Your Responsibility

  • You are responsible for what you share and receive
  • Do not knowingly possess or distribute illegal content. If you receive it unsolicited, report it immediately.
  • Don't download suspicious files or click unknown links. This includes ones from your friends or other people you know.

Strictly Prohibited

  • Terrorist or extremist content
  • Malware, phishing, or hacking tools
  • Doxxing or harassment
  • Intentional large-scale distribution of pirated content
  • Child exploitation material (CSAM)

Consequences: Immediate ban + law enforcement report when required.

Stay Safe

  • Don't trust unsolicited messages or links
  • Verify identity before sharing sensitive info
  • Use privacy settings to control who can message you
  • Report suspicious activity immediately

Report Violations

Every message has a Report button. Use it if you see:

  • Illegal content or links
  • Harassment or threats
  • Spam or scams
  • Any rule violations

We review reports within a few hours. Urgent cases have a higher priority (abusing this may result in an account limitation)

Reporting End-to-End Encrypted Messages

Senden cannot read end-to-end encrypted messages on the server. When you report an encrypted message, your client decrypts the reported message along with the 10 messages before and after it for context, and submits that bundle to our moderation team.

Because you are the one decrypting and submitting the messages, we cannot independently verify that the content originated from the reported person. To account for this, moderators do not act on reported content alone. They also consider the reported user's overall behavior, usage patterns, and prior reports before taking action.

No single moderator can ban a user or close a report unilaterally. All enforcement decisions require sign-off from multiple moderators. Read more on our Safety & Moderation FAQ.

Restricted Jurisdictions

Senden is not available to users located in the following jurisdictions:

  • United Kingdom
  • Australia
  • Brazil
  • Indonesia

Access from these jurisdictions is blocked at the network level. If you are located in one of these jurisdictions, you are not permitted to use the Service. You are responsible for ensuring that you are not accessing Senden from a restricted jurisdiction.

Account Termination & Deleted Content

When an account is banned or deleted, the following applies:

  • The account and associated content are marked as deleted and hidden from other users as quickly as reasonably possible. Due to propagation across multiple servers and locally cached data on client devices, some content may remain briefly visible to others during this period.
  • Data is retained for 90 days after the ban or deletion date for legal compliance and abuse investigation purposes.
  • After 90 days, all data is permanently and irreversibly deleted from our systems, including messages, files, and account information.
  • The same 90-day retention period applies to individually deleted messages and other content deleted by the user before account deletion.

Banned users may contact us at mydata@senden.chat to request early deletion of their data, subject to any active legal hold obligations.

Governing Law

By using senden.chat, you agree to comply with Swiss federal law and our Terms of Service. Any disputes arising from these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Zurich, Switzerland.
